I completely stopped reading business books years ago, the reason being, the repetition was becoming rather annoying. I would read one thing in a Ziglar book then read something similar in Robbins etc... it became obvious to me that after reading all I could get my hands on, I had learned what I needed to and grew from there.

Books are only as good as your retention to remember their contents, summary or otherwise, I find them an increasingly useless distraction towards concise information that can be easily found online.

I prefer to focus my time on creating NEW things rather than reading commercials.

Hey Bozidar,

You're absolutely dead on, I should have mentioned that, but that's a GIVEN. Absolutely you have to put the person that's good at it :)

Good To Great is HUUUUUUGE on it. For example, Jim keeps saying:

"First Who, Then What" - I'll talk more about this concept today later in a post.

Basically he's saying, don't bother trying to figure out WHAT you're going to do or HOW you're going to do. First just figure out WHO you're going to put on the project, the rest takes care of itself (if you get the right people on it).

So, to modify, Put Your Best QUALIFIED People On Opportunities, NOT Problems..."

Thanks for clarifying that!

This is an interesting position, and may work quite well. However the good CEO/CIO/CTO must also identify what are his people good at?

Someone may be good at line management, another may be good at initative and enterpeneurhip, or just pure sales.

So it's not always a rule that your best person will bring your opportunity to fruition - be careful

Hi Mystery CEO,

I work for a small company (12 employees) that has been adopting the Rockefeller Habits as well as Topgrading over the last nine months. Our CEO has given the task of managing our Topgrading initiatives to our Operations Manager and does not actively participate in our weekly training and discussion sessions.

My question is in your opinion, will we be able to fully achieve Topgrading results, build a virtual bench, and continue to Topgrade within our organization without our CEO leading the program?

Okay, I'm an idiot. CEOs mess up too! I see what you did (I just jumped to the highlighted sentence). I agree with you 100% and on the order of the responsibilities.

You use checks? Wow... you need to learn about either paypal or direct deposit... some CEOs are very good at poker faces as well and let you invest in their company without your knowledge (ei: they ain't got the money).

I do agree, poker face has it's place but I prefer to share in the excitement (ups and downs) then to always be that ho-hum kind of leader.
